To access the Data Repository, you can press the link below:

Instructions:

  • The database relies on the operation of three dropdown lists.

  • The first allows the selection of a database. As of January 2022, I have only uploaded data for the first database; thus, the list remains locked.

  • The second dropdown list shows the chapter/section of the database. I have added this widget to order the graphs conveniently. Please be aware that there are sections that contain no graphs.

  • The graph list reconstructs a figure from the database and shows a projection of the data and the table.

News and acknowledgments:

  • As of January 2022, the database contains the results of my Ph.D. thesis titled Building an Empire in the New World. Taxes and Fiscal Policy in Hispanic America during the Seventeenth Century. I will add more data in the following months.

  • For the most part, the data used in the repository has already been published and/or is publicly available. Feel free to download it and use it for your own research.

  • The data I have collected for the database relies heavily on Herbert Klein and John J. TePaske's research. Please visit this page to learn more about their work and download the original data series: Cajas de la Real Hacienda Americana. Also, Herbert Klein and Carlos Marichal's Academia Pages are excellent sources of information.

  • The main database has been programmed in MySQL, and the interface is provided by an app programmed in Python with Dash - Plotly. It is currently operating on a Debian virtual machine from AWS Lightsail.
